Almost two years ago I had a vision for this shoot. I made a mood board, wrote down some ideas & shared it with Crystal & Hannah - I knew they were who I saw in these photos. I sort of let the idea sit on a shelf [for too long] & once I picked it back up again, it remained the same, but had progressed a bit more. Maybe I wasn't fully ready to see it come to life & the idea itself waited for me. Which I think is incredibly kind...
These photos are just a tiny aspect of what it means to be female. The shadow side, the mess that we often hide behind, the things that we let sit in between us & other women, the way our female essence flows between us... I was inspired by so many things, but at the end of the day it was that our differences are what bind us together. That in a sisterhood, there is a common thread that opens us up & allows each other in. I think that's what I saw the most & what I wanted to share the most.
In the past I may not have had the verb-age to put to what I saw in my head & often I let the photos do the talking - but I wanted these photos to be very clear. I want the message to stand taller than just a pretty photo or a blog post, because I think the earlier we learn to understand each other & lean into other female relationships, the better our life becomes.
